I always use them but have only cashed them at the resort where we stay as the rate they give was pretty good but I imagine if you go to a bank you will have to have your passport with you....it is a safe way to travel..we always bring 1/2 cash and 1/2 travelers checks...also use the cc# in a place we know is good.......

We haven't used travelers checks in years ...

we take a few hundred in cash (small bills for tips, etc.), and use the ATM's.

Easy Peasy

We bring several hundred $$ worth every year, but always cash them out little by little at the hotel we are staying at. We've never used them at the restaurants or for shopping - always used the cash that we get from cashing out the traveler's checks.

THEY//meaning shop owners call them TROUBLE CHECKS,, will do most anything to get out of accepting them// IN THE 4months were there we use the VISA which bundles there exchanges in bulk and have always recieved the best rate// this is what works best for us //joeyg

Use them every time! I also only cash them at the resort, then use their currency when in town.

This year, first time in 20 years, I lost some! Placed a call to report them, they asked me about a million questions ... received a check one week later. ..... so I'll continue to use them.
