No passport
Nadine 7/17/06 09:24

I can't seem to find my husband's passport. But i think he can travel to Cancun with his birth certificate. Is this correct?

As long as it's before Dec 31, 2006

I think that is when they are changing the rules.

as long as

it is an "original" one and not photocopied. By original I mean one with either the raised state seal, or the colored state seal (states vary across the US). You also need a government issued photo ID, like a drivers license. The names must match on both.

you must return back to the US by December 31, 2006. After that passports are required.

Yes, for the rest of this year

I hope you can find it or get a replacement before you leave. But the passport is required after 12/31/06 for everywhere to get back into the U.S. Mexico, Canada, Bahamas, etc.

thank you so much for your answers
no we are leaving for cancun on 27 july:-) so we will be fine.
so they just need a certified copy of the birth certificate? and a license for example?

Gov't issue - not hospital issue

It must be a birth certificate, with a raised seal, issued by the governmental agency, in Florida that would be the Health Dept. in the county where the person was born.

Birth certificates issued by hospitals are NOT acceptable.

Raised seals

are not a requirement. We did away with them in TX years ago.

The BC does have to be gov issued as you stated.
