Any suggestions on where to buy Cuban cigars in Cancun? The mall shops seem to be overly expensive, and I suspect prices would be better in town. Thanks in advance.

There is a small cigar store in Wal-Mart downtown.

If you want Cubans and are looking for rare, hard to find smokes La Casa del Habano is the place to buy. Also try Sr Habano in the Hotel Zone. Stay away from convenience store and most hotel sold cigars. Do not buy any Cohibas (or any Cuban) if they are stored in a glass-top box.

There is a nice cigar store at La Isla that has the Cigars in a humidity controlled room.The sales gal was amazing as she knew all about cigars and could answer all your questions. Prices were $8 to $15 just about the same as Wal-Mart where the cigars are in a little room.
If you are staying at the Royals they have a gal at the Royal Caribbean that cuts and rolls cigars out of Cuban tabacco. They have a Royal Resort label on them with no mention of Cuba so you could probably get these back across the border. Again, prices were $8 to $15

Walmart is good but small selection.

I used to buy at the place at La Isla, which was formerly at Plaza Flamingo.

BUT, the gal I dealt with left and the last time I was there, I saw products that were obviously counterfeit. I heard that this is why the long time employee left. So I did not buy and have not been back. This was over a year ago. I walk by this place all the time and it looks good but I no longer trust them.

Now I look for friends who are going to Cuba and have them bring me back a few. Lots of counterfeits. Caveat emptor.

I don't need to get scammed by counterfeits. I'd only simply be looking for Montecristos to smoke while on vacation. I had found the shops in Kuklakan (spelling?) mall to be pricey, and thought in-town would be cheaper. I'm not sure why Cuban cigars cost so much as opposed to Dominican.

They don't cost more.....

don't waste time looking for smokes in Cancun unless you need a collectible from LCDH
