Tim, et el - Need some suggestions please
Ed & Lisa Kiick 7/13/06 18:44

While at the OMNI later this month we are planning an evening out with several employees and their famlies for dinner! Our treat, for all they do for us while enjoying paradise. Any ideas for a great time, remembering there will be children attending as well as adults! Thanks in advance for all your help!! :) Smile

Perico's?

Always fun there. There is better food to be had, but the place is fun for all ages.

you'll definately want to be downtown so it's convenient for them. i'll throw out El Pescadore as a possibility. nice thing you are doing!! :C) Cool tim

Where's Brant when you need him?
Cat 7/15/06 19:04

I can't remember the name of the place where he always takes us, but it's downtown (well a little ways out of downtown), has EXCELLENT food, has reasonable prices, and has outdoor seating so the kids can play. Very casual place.

Anyone who knows where I'm talking about, please chime right in. :D Big Grin

Pericos is always fun but lots of stuff going on so hard to visit without interruptions which are constant. Fun but hard to visit.

La Placita - On Yaxchilan. Where the locals go. Outdoor grill. Hottest tortillas in the world. It has a wall around it so the kids won't run away easily. Good food and service. Prices reasonable.

I'm trying to figure out where Cat is talking about. Give me another clue as I bet I have been there. Are you talking about El Timon, which is only open during the day?

Rolandi's, on the right on Coba, just before Tulum, is nice. Good food and service and quiet, yet busy.

The best place however where I was entertainmed with a large party (by Mantenimiento) was at Plaza la Isla at La Casa de las Margaritas. They have a room that is off the main dining room, but it is not closed off from the dining room so you aren't all remote. Mariachi band, great food and service. My pick for a party.

Let us know what you decide.

Is La Casa de las Margaritas open? I loved that place!

I didn't see it on my new map.

I also didn't see Faro's or Mango Tango's, did either one open after the hurricane?

Mango Tango

I saw some construction going on around this place when I was down. Maybe they finally got their insurance money.
It was just 5 or 6 workers doing something as I just got a quick look as the bus went by.

El Timon?

I go there all the time. From Coba (if coming from the direction of the H.Z., go right on Palenque and it is on the traffic circle at Xpuhil. Coming from that direction you go 3/4 of the way around the circle.

For under $10 U.S. you can get 1/2 kg (more than a pound) of barbacoa, tortillas, all the "fixin's", a side order of guacamole and 2 Agua de Jamaicas. That way you have some to go. You get pretty filled on 1/4 kg but you don't have any to take home to Mama.

Fixin's include onion, cilantro, grilled cactus, maybe some green peppers, and slices of avacado. Oh, you also get a thing with about 4 salsas on it. Good flavor but none will set you on fire.

I love this place. You need to go early as they always seem to run out of barbacoa mid afternoon.

di - I know that you know all this except for the street names. I am hungry just thinking about it.

I knew Av. Palenque
di 7/17/06 09:41

and I can drive you there, just don't pay attention to all the street names!! lol

We always meet the family there one night each trip. They have a great bean soup that I usually get, along with the arranchera tacos. We also like to stop there for a light lunch around 3-4ish.

This is where Chuy usually ate when he got off work from Carlos n Charlies. He'd get there around 3am. It used to be just a cart practically, then grew and grew. The owner is nice.

Yes, that's it!

Thanks Paul!

Nobody ever talks about it but I recently ate at the El Timon location at the south west corner of Av. Bonampak and Av. Coba; same great food, low price and prompt service.

I reviewed it after last year's trip

good location for us in the car as there is parking right there in the evening (where we would park for Stefano's, sniff). The service was very slow for our late lunch. We talked to them and they said they are not related exactly. They operate independantly from each other--think there was a fight/falling out between owners and there was a split.
