Baggage charges
Karen in NYC 6/25/08 11:17

It may be worse than we thought. I was told, for instance, if you have a $25 charge for a second bag, the charge is actually PER LEG OF TRIP, NOT FOR THE ENTIRE ONE-WAY. For instance if the 2nd bag is $25, and you fly LGA-DFW-CUN you will pay $50, not $25). This is something to confirm with airline BEFORE you make reservations (and why I fly NON-STOP!)

I sure hope I was given incorrect info!!!

I have to check it out, but I may have found a temporary out for us. Just looked at NWA's website and saw that the extra bag charge is for tickets purchased after March 29. We bought our July tickets in January. Might have a free pass this trip. Also, NW says online that the charge is each way, not per segment. Each airline has its own rules, though, so check with yours.

I have Jet Blue to Aruba in September. I missed the Cutoff (purchase date) by 5 days...............But JB is only $20 (taking 2nd bag is cheaper than paying for overweight.

The more I think about it, I wonder if I mis-read info or got incorrect info. I cant believe the airlines wouldnt state this policy..............Otherwise you would have people uttering all seven of George Carlin's words....

Karen...I read the same report you did and just now re-read it. Sounds, from that report, like United is charging per segment but they seem to be the only ones. At least from what I've heard, and I also have questions whether United is actually doing that. There doesn't appear to be any stipulation on their website about per segment, only per bag charges.

Craig, you know my Travel Agent. i got it from that board. Its Continental Airlines. I actually wrote to Continental to try and confirm this, though my TA knows what she's talking about.

Like the Blues Brothers, "I am on a mission from G-d" to find out this info. It so (expletive deleted).

:D :D You bet I do, Karen. I think she said that CO wasn't charging per segment. Best to call CO direct and get it from the horse's mouth. Or write. Let us know what they say!

Re: Baggage and SEAT charges

Spirit just started charging $5 to request an aisle or window seat, or a change from the pre-assigned seat, which could be aisle or window.

And that charge IS PER SEGMENT, so if you have a plane change each way it is $20. Dirty Rat B%#$@*ds.

And on the baggage, Spirit just doubled that charge if you check two, and have a 50% increase for one. In dollars that would be $15 (from $10) for the first checked bag and $25 (from $10) for the second = $40 for two (from $20)
