Three in a week...

First Aloha Airlines, then Champion Air, now ATA. At least Champion gave people a couple month's warning. ATA has already stranded people at Chicago Midway from the report I heard.

And did you hear Suncountry cut employees now too. I can't remember how many.

It makes you wonder if there will be affordable flights in the coming year.

that is a very good question. i guess only Mexicana is left from Chicago Midway to Cancun now. they use to be competitive with ATA for pricing. tim

In the coming year???? The flights just completed for our March trip cost twice as much as we've ever paid before. Could have paid more, too. At least our July flights are more in the ballpark. (Already booked...and with NW of all people. They've had the best prices for our dates this year!!!!!!!!!!)

We have also flown with NW the last 2 times. We booked them through Worry Free as a charter. If we tried to book them through NWA Vacations it was considerably more $.

Now that IS weird. We booked directly through the NW website and it (March) was considerably cheaper than through Worryfree. Same flight, a couple hundred less booked direct. Of course, we were booking only the flights. We never book lodging in a package with the flight. Can't get condos in Akumal that way. ;)

Come to think of it we did book one night in a hotel. I'm sure that is why it was a little cheaper. If I recall correctly NWA Vacations wouldn't let us book just one night in a hotel.

Worry Free is actually MLT Worry Free Vacations which happens to be owned by Northwest. Not sure if that was already mentioned earlier.

I knew that Worry free and MLT were pretty much the same but didn't know NW owned them.

This is what I just read about Sun Country: http://www.kare11.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=503116

Hey, you mentioned in your post below that MLT is calling it quits??? I never heard that, just Champion Air. Can you fill me in about MLT por favor?

Re: Craig...
Craig in WI 4/3/08 17:39

Gee...I don't think I said that. Champion is out, and MLT/WorryFree used Cahmpion for many of its flights. But Champion isn't the only airline they use. MLT, from another source, is owned by NW Airlines and as far as I've heard is going strong. I haven't been using MLT recently because they were charging way too much for the flights, especially when using NW. I found prices direct from NW to be considerably cheaper than those listed by MLT.

So...short answer...no, MLT/WorryFree is doing just fine. (As far as I know.)
