It's our last full day in paradise. So sad. Woke up to another beautiful day....
The rest of my family went to Isla today. Randy and I stayed at the Omni. We just wanted to relax on our home turf today, and that was fine.
Apparently yesterday I burned myself - really bad...just my lower extremeties. Don't know how it happened.
I put lotion on. I even put SPF 45 on in some places. All I can say is it must of rubbed off somehow.
Yes, it hurt. Being the future ER nurse hopeful, I was able to treat myself with aloe lotion and cool, damp cloths. The following day, the ankles and feet began to swell and blisters formed around my ankles. 2nd degree burn....Mmmm, that's a first - and not good. Ibuprofen cured the swelling.
So odd - I have Lebanese (Catholic, not Muslum) and Italian blood, Randy is Norwegian - I get burned and he is fine. Go figure.
OK, so no sun for me today, so I'll need a shaded area on the beach. I slept in a bit, so I did't get a palapa with the rest of the early birds. When I got to the beach, I saw that the tide was really high today, so an umbrella wasn't a good option, as I would have gotten wet from occasional incoming waves. I looked at the bed beds for rent at $25 for the day.......
I said screw it! I decided to pamper our asses today and splurged. Randy was still sleeping when I made the decision, but he didn't mind. Actually, the $25 is a bargin compared to poolside beds/cabanas in Las Vegas, which can run anywhere from $50-150 for the day, depending on the hotel. OK, enough on that....
Once you claim a bed, a staff member comes by to put up the certains and deliver drinks. Here is Moises putting up certains on a bed a few down from us...
Here was the view from our bed. Wish I was there now...
We had lunch at the beachside Pina Colada restaurant. The staff there is so friendly. They treat us like royalty everytime. Love it!
Here's a photo of their salsa for Al...
After lunch, I ordered my afternoon drink, a Pina Colada...
Enjoyed the scenery for the rest of the afternoon and soaked up the beautiful beach views while I still could...
Our pampered asses and our beach bed....
We did dinner at Ponco & Willy's that night. We didn't want to go too far in case it rained, which it was threatening to do. Didn't want to get caught in the middle of dinner at some open air cafe/restaurant. We made a good decision - it rained pretty heavy for a few hours. Not one croc sighting either. Oh well. After dinner, we bused it up to the Punta area to have a few drinks and say good-bye to everyone at El Sombrero.
All week long, we had a running joke with cactus with the staff there. Elan was showing off his cactus that he's been growing...
We took pictures of our seats (swings at the bar) that we marked earlier in the week.
During the evening there, some rude spring breakers tried to use their bathrooms without being paid customers. The staff said that they are only for customers. The spring breakers walked off all grumpy and being rude. I yelled to them, "Adios Pandejos" (pronounced pahn-day-hoes), which means "good-bye assholes". Juan Carlos taught us that word last year. I kept yelling pandejos to them and they had no clue what I was saying and continued walking. The El Sombrero staff were busting a gut laughing at me.
We then said our good-byes to Juan Carlos, Elan and the others.
I had to take a picture of me by the police truck for my co-workers....
We sadly went back to the Omni for our final sleep in Cancun. Sigh.
I can't believe how narrow that beach is.
The last time we stayed at the Omni, Nov. 2007, the beach was very wide.
As always, great report!
WOuld come in handy even here in NYC!
