ADMIN! New Article: Understanding Dengue Fever
Cbeach1 3/27/08 10:56

Dengue fever is most often transmitted to humans by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which has been responsible for recent outbreaks in Texas and the northeastern Mexican state of Tamaulipas. The disease has also been active in the low-lying coastal regions of Veracruz and along the Yucatan Peninsula. There is no vaccination for Dengue Fever. Prevent exposure with mosquito repellents (containing DEET) and protective netting during the day. (This mosquito prefers to hunt during daylight.)

Tim,

The mosquito netting would last about 20 seconds with my puppies.....if that long! I'll just take my chances with the mosquitos. :-

well, there is that. :D

I don't know yet. I have to wait another week or two. Who knew there wasn't a pregnancy test for dogs?? (at least not in Mexico, it seems...)
I never had mosquito problems in Mexico except for one
fran in ny 3/28/08 06:07

excursion to the Dos Ojos caves. Walking through the jungle to get from one cave to the next was really bad one summer and we were swarmed by mosquitos. Other than that, I think I have had more problems at home with mosquitos during the summer. Maybe I was just lucky!

Interesting article. I went to donate blood and they asked where in Cancun did I stay. Apparently if you go to the Riviera Maya or Playa Del Carmen they will not let you donate.
yes, that is true. i hope people use mosquito spray

Fran,

If you have always stayed in Cancun's hotel zone, that would explain why you haven't had many problems with mosquitos. The city has big trucks that drive around spraying for mosquitos. I have seen them do it downtown too, but they obviously don't sneak in my house to spray around my desk. ;-)
