Woke up to another beautiful day. I took these photos by the pool...
The Omni's kiddie pool, where my nieces spent a lot of their time when not building sandcastles on the beach...
Today is the day I finally went skyriding.
For those of you who don't know what it is, it's similar to parasailing, except safer. You ride up and land safely in a bench from the boat with a parachute on it.
I tried doing this a couple of years ago, but they cancelled due to high winds and I didn't get the opportunity again during that trip. Since I couldn't convince anyone in my familiy to go with me (chickens), I went solo.
Because I anticipated rough waves and getting motion sick on the boat, which has happened before, I took some "less drowsy" Dramamine that morning. Even though "less drowsy", it still made me sleepy. I took a nap on a beach lounge chair before I did the skyriding, downed some Diet Cokes, but still couldn't fully wake up.
I walked my sleepy ass down two hotels on the beach to the Fiesta Americana Condesa, where they are set up to take people out. They have you put on a life jacket and jetski you out to the boat....
The jetskiing was fun. The waves were pretty wicked and I hung onto the guy tight. I had a disposable, waterproof camera wrapped tightly around my wrist. We got out to the boat where I boarded. I took some photos of the hotel zone and the ocean before I boarded the boat. Don't you just love the beautiful turquoise water?
They had two parties waiting on the boat while one party went up in the air....
The waves were wild and I was still trying to wake up fully. Now being a Minnesota gal, I grew up on lakes and boats so I am familiar with boating on the water. Well....the ocean waves throw me off a little....literally....As we were going along, we hit a nasty wave, which made me airborn in the boat. As I landed, my elbow landed directly on a hard piece of fiberglass edging. OUCH!!!! OK, now I'm awake. The pain was extreme, and I lost slight feeling and then the tingling started. For a little bit, I wondered if I broke the end of my radius. Yes, it hurt that much. All I kept thinking was, "shake it off - shake it off" and all I cared about is having enough feeling and strength for my finger to push down on my camera to take pictures. Well, I pulled myself together enough to ignore the pain. What am I going to do? Not fulfill my dream of flying a couple hundred feet over the open ocean of sharks and barracudas to enjoy beautiful scenery? OK, it was finally my turn to go up....
I will warn you, my photos suck. My shirt got really wet from the jetski out to the boat and the boat was very wet from the crazy waves and all the splashing and I didn't have much of a choice of cloth to wipe off the lens of the camera, although I tried, so the photos turned out a little fuzzy, but you'll get the idea....
Here I am going up in the bench, which by the way doesn't have any seat straps, which I thought was odd.....
Now more on this bench I was sitting in....like I said, I doesn't have any belts are straps to strap you down. After a few minutes, I realized that you are engineered to sit down low enough to not get swept up in the wind. I still hung onto something with one hand during the ride though, just in case. With the other hand, I took photos of the ocean and hotel zone...
Although fuzzy, you get an idea of how high I was. It was very cool.
I really enjoyed this experience and will definately do it again and recommend it to anyone who wants to do it. Well, I might have to do it again to get some better photos and do it when I'm 100% awake too.
My elbow to this day is still sore. Never got it x-rayed. Here is a photo of the bruising of my elbow a few days afterwards....
Randy and I took my mom out for dinner. Everyone else stayed in for roomservice. We took her on another wild bus ride to the Punta area (corner of the "7") and walked her around and let her choose a restaurant. She chose Choko and Tere's. The service was very good and so was the food. Randy and I had the stuffed filet in a cream and cheese sauce...
My mom had the salmon on vegetables....
It was an early night for us. I took this photo of the Omni grounds at night, with the Royal Mayan in the background. Thought it was pretty...
And that is the end of Day 5.
