We spent a week here in mid February.  Our travel agent said it was a 5 star property...it's not.  We stayed in the Nizuc side.  The buildings are nice and well maintained.  Our room had a great view of the beach but it needed some updating.  The upholtry was worn and the drapes and bed spread didn't even match.  The beach is great for walking but you would not want to swim there  lots of seaweed and kind of smelly.  The pool was beautiful!  The service by the pool is good as long as you tip the staff.  The resort has 2 major draw backs - it is about a 15 minute ride into Cancun and the food was terrible.  Being away from the hotel zone wasn't too bad because they ran buses back and forth.  The food though was a real disapointment. They served mostly buffets and the food was often cold.  It appeared that it sat there for quite some time  often without the buffet warmers used.  3 out of the 4 people in our party ended up with food poisoning at different times during the week.  Because of this  I really wouldn't recommend this resort.  It's expensive and there are lots of other nice resorts in Cancun.

Ten of us stayed there in May 2001 and we are going
back in April of 2002. We loved the resort. I thought
the food was fantastic especially the Japanese restaurant.
The service was great with friendly employees. We didnt
tip every time but we still got good service. The beach
wasnt as good as the hotel zone but everything else
was so good that we didnt mind. We could go to the
other resorts to check out the beach and we still got
to eat and drink free.

We stayed here the week of march 13 thru march 20 2002. The food was pretty good  buffet style. They use top notch liquor here also.
The rooms were nice and clean with maid service every day. Leave a tip for the maids and they make cool things out of the towels. We didnt care for the jacuzzi though. The jet sprayed too hard on the back. The staff was courteous. The pool was awesome. Well kept and clean. The beach sucked. Seaweed at 1 point was a foot high and 3 feet thick. Dump trucks drove back and forth the whole time we were there collecting the weed. Sunrises pool was just as awesome. I recommend this resort if you want peace and quiet. Our time here was in the middle of spring break and we were glad to be back at this hotel after going downtown for the afternoon.

Do the island majores (sp) tour. Was fun  the boat picks you up at the dock behind the resort and they are good guys. They have a great show for the ride back to the hotel.

WE SPENT A WEEK THERE APRIL 2002.   THE SUNRISE SIDE IS MUCH BETTER   POOLS AND SERVICE ARE TOP NOTCH.  THE BEACH IS NOT THE BEAUTIFUL CARRIBEAN WATER...THE POOLS ARE EXCELLENT THOUGH!   WE ENJOYED ALL THE FOOD AND DRINK  ESPECIALLY THE JAPANESE RESTURAUNT ON THE SUNRISE SIDE.   PREPARE FOR A WAIT THERE   BUT WELL WORTH IT!

We stayed at the Sunrise part of the hotel last year in May and had a wonderful time.  The only slightly annoying thing was that the beach wasn't as nice as the beach in the main hotel zone but the pool more than makes up for it!  The staff were great - they couldn't do enough for you and the food was fantastic quality.  There was always an excellent selction of food at all times of the day.  If you want pure luxury then definatley go.

Moon Palace side is terrible.. the rooms are shoddy.. the upholstery was worn on a small couch that was in the room. The food was terrible and the service was just as bad. Nowwww on the Sunrise side a whole different ballgame.. the room  food  staff all A1 definatley a 5 star resort. Here is the catch. WE are members   we bought into the time share they offer. The last two times we made reservations which we made for the Sunrise side.. well when we got there.. we were shuffled over to the Moon Palace itself. We had to fight and argue and threaten to sue to get to go back to the Sunrise side. I personally do not reccommend going to Mexico at all anymore.. they are to commercialized and they will do minual to please you in most instances. Sunrise is a beautiful resort but not worth the hassle of trying to stay there. What it appears to me is after they sucker you in then you are treated like crap so they have the plush accomodations to show potential buyers. If you gotta go to Mexico.. my advice is to stay away from the Palace resorts. Even in talking to other tourists.. seems this is a practice they do there all the time.

We spent 4/27/02-5/3/02 at Moon Palace & had a wonderful time. The service was excellent and the food was great. The pools are unbelievable. You just have to be there to realize how grand the pool areas are. There's plenty of white sand for long walks on the beach  but for truly beautiful turquoise water take the shuttle to the other Palace resorts in the hotel zone. If you have a soft spot for animals  I have a small request for you if you choose Moon Palace. There are plenty of hungry cats at the resort who would appreciate any food you can spare for them. My husband & I found stray cats at both ends of the resort  but they hang out in the evening & early morning between the rear exit of the Punta Nizuc lobby and the Cactus Building. If you stay here you've already paid for the food  chicken & fish are plentiful at the restaurants & it's no problem to get a take-out box. So please help feed the hungry kitties; they'll appreciate every bite! We definitely will plan our next stay in Cancun at Moon Palace. It's the best choice of all the Palace resorts in the hotel zone because it offers the most restaurants  bars  beautiful scenery for long walks  and by far the grandest pool in Cancun.

I can only give this place two out of ten. We stayed a year ago on an all inclusive basis & the food was absolutely terrible. It was always cold with the buffets being the worst. In the a la carte you would be eating your startes & you could see you main course had been served up & was sat on the side going cold. We both suffered from food poisioning. The hotel  rooms & pool etc (both sides) are beautiful but  if you are staying A/I you have to have good food.
The Seaweed problem was much worse than we had been told about.
Do not be suckered into going to this place  if you like cold dangerous food then maybe you should go for it!

The Sunrise side is great. Never did get over to the other side but there's always next year.  The concerns I had got answered when we got to the Moon Palace.  The water is calm  clear but we wore swimshoes because the seaweed feels a little creepy but it's no big deal.  There were a few patches of blue where there wasn't any seaweed so we'd pull ourselves out there by the buoy rope and snorkeled.  Saw many beautiful fish and some neat stuff alive on the bottom  but that wasn't the highlight of my Moon Palace snorkel....after about 10 minutes with my son and me hanging on to the rope and looking around  I turned around towards shore and there was a 3-4 ft. barracuda about 5 ft. from us just looking at us!  We stayed calm and just watched him and then he swam off and so did we!  We now know why the closest restaurant and bar to our spot at the beach is called Playa Barracuda!  As far as your other concerns  the best tour for us turned out to be Tulum and Xpu-Ha. Chictzen Itza is too far away. 3 hrs. on the bus there and back doesn't seem like fun plus it's HOT and there's no water to cool off in. At Tulum  we had time after the tour to wander about and swim at the gorgeous beach there. Can't snorkel tho...too rough. My video camera would not work due to the humidity so don't bother buying a permit for one. (4$). Xpu-Ha is a Palace Resort so the magic bracelet works there as well--all the equipment  food  drink  towels etc...pretty beach  and go to the far end of the snorkel area so you'll
see the best fish. The river is nice too  very clear and cold. The bus ride was comfortable and we stopped once on the way to Tulum to have a restroom break and a little shopping at a Mayan joint. Don't pay what they ask--pay about half and you'll be okay. Other than that  the Moon Palace is wonderful. The best restaurant in our opinion is Bugambillias but it's hot in all the restaurants for some reason. We didn't get to go to the Oriental place because we didn't have shirts with collars (3 males). We heard it was delicious but everything I put in my mouth there was first class. Don't go for the "Welcome Package" unless you've got two hrs. to burn on listening to a membership sales pitch--we did it only to get free t-shirts and $100 in Palace money. We bought all our family's t-shirts  souvenirs  and liquor to take home with the money in the gift shop there. Hope this message gets to you before you go--the lobby bar is the best place to drink and relax. Wish I was there now!

We went their for our Honeymoon and first of all the service was impeccable these people went out of their way to please us. The food was decent as any all inclusive. The architecture and sculpture all throughout the lobby along with the art is a 10. I thought it was a quiet step away from all the downtown hooplah. We always were glad when we got back to our resort so secluded and romantic. I would recommend it. To me the beach wasnt as seaweed ladened as I've read others say however I went there in 1999 sept and they were constantly combing the beach to make it nice. My camcorder worked lovely it came as a package deal with my wedding videography package. I had a great time. The sunrise is definitely a step up. The jacuzzi was decent also....Me and MY hubby will be returning however if you are a true coffee person bring your own coffee to mexico because The coffee in Mexico was weak all around we found like maybe one restaurant that had good coffee It tastes like some mexican coffee bean with an odd weak taste. I truly suffered from coffee neglect I will be bringing Folgers or Maxwell House with me this trip smile I am serious coffee drinkers bring your own coffee or you will suffer especially in the morning.

We stayed for one week in August 2002.  Service was great. We went in a group of 22 and they were always able to accomodate all of us for whatever it was we wished to do. All areas of the hotel (rooms as well as public areas) are extremely clean.  We found the staff to be very helpful and friendly.  Jacuzzi in every room.  If you like to watch TV; mostly in Spanish. The food is okay; a lot of it but not a whole of flavor.  The best restaurant was the oriental restaurant at the Sunrise Palace. There are plenty of big  air-conditioned shuttles to take you back and forth between the Moon Palace and the Sunrise Palace. Shuttles into Cancun are at very inconvenient times and they are not very frequent.  You must stand in line for about 30 minutes to insure a place on the shuttle (they only take 40 people at a time). A cab of four people was $18.00 one way into Cancun. Security seems to be very tight there.  Every time we returned to the hotel from Cancun or wherever  our cab was stopped and we had to show our hotel bracelets to the security guard before we were allowed to proceed. Be sure to book any trips you wish to take as soon as possible because they book up very quickly.  You MUST swim with the dolphins at Isla Mujeres - a tour is offered through the hotel. They video tape it - $49.00; they take pictures - for all six is about $78.00.  Both are well worth the cost.  The beach is not very good at all; too much seaweed and the water is not clear. Grounds are beautiful.  Some of the rooms are about 1/3 mile from the main lobby and restaurants. That is not all that bad unless you tend to make a lot of trips to your room. The place is HUGE!! Pool area is pretty good but when we were there  we didn't notice that there was any type of water circulation going on - the water line was not even as high as the skimmers. The day care (from what we observed) was very controlled - the staff with the children were very attentive and friendly with the kids they were watching.  We probably won't stay there again simply because it is quite far from any shopping  restaurants or clubs. The cab ride is about  20-25 minutes.

I went to the Moon Palace Punta Nizuic from 4th Aug 2002 - 18th Aug with a group of friends. I can honestly say i had the time of my life - i really recommend a holiday there. Everything was superb if you use the sunrise's facilities as well. The food was great especially the spanish and chinese resturants. The pool was beautiful and well maintained. There was a bit of seaweed on the beach but once you pass that - there's no problem. The rooms were brilliant too. i'm definately goig to go back there one day. Downtown canun has a fabulous nightlife - Coco Bongo was fab!! (if you book with Thomson (uk)  go on the juan helluva nite - it really is worth the money - the reps are a great laugh  esp. Tom!!!!!!!!). Also don't miss out on swimming with dolphins - a experience of a lifetime!!!

I just got back from Moon Palace Nov. 26 2002.  My kids are 6 and 8  and we thought this would be a great way to not worry about all the extra expense.  Definitely was...  My ONLY CONCERNS!  DO NOT DO THE TIME SHARE SPEAL!!!!!!  They kept me and my family there for 4 hrs. while my kids were going nuts.  I went through 4 salesman  and told them I would never buy before taking a test drive(they try and sell the first day there)It was quite frustrating to get away.  My advise  skip it. The Xpu-Ha was a great tour.  Definitely go.  The beach is great and you snorkel for free.  Don't pay extra somewhere else.  It costs too much and they rush you through.  Isla is a nice one but the take you shopping and it is a waste of time.  If you get boat sick   Don't go...
Always ask a taxi how much before gettng in.  I was charged 20 to go to the water park when it should have been ten.  I got the taxi # and reprted him.  Don't get't hammered either.  They told me I turned in three towels when I know it was four.  They said I was intoxicated and threatened to have me immediately arrested.  Control all the way.  You have no say.  Do not lose anything  break anything  or disturb anything.  If you can guarantee that you will have a great time.  With kids a may be hard.  $40 in extra towel fees was  a bummer.

The first year that my husband and I came to Cancun  we had reservations at the LeMeridan.  It was such a beautiful place that we thought it had to be at the top  which  according to what I have read  it is.  I have been in several other hotels since that first visit  and I have yet to see anything more beautiful than the Moon Palace.  The only pitfall that I could find was that the beach had a lot of seaweed  and did not have the aqua blue water as that on the strip. Although I thought the food was good  and had a wonderful presentation  I think that another sit down  order from the menu restaurant would benefit the Palace Resorts.

Stayed at the moon palace last year. Just plain great. During the week I spent there though  there were several guest on the honeymoons. So not a great place if ur single. But for couples  u cant go wrong. If they still offer the bar hopping tour  go for it. Didnt care for the beach  but stayed at the pool most of the time anyway. The food was decent. U have to remember that most of it is buffet style. Just remember  just because it is a five star hotel  does not mean it has five star restraunts with world famous chefs. Was going to book again this year but I am going to try something in the hotel zone. I will be in cancun on June 16th. Cant wait. Fourth time there. My second on an all inclusive plan. Which btw  is the way to go.

Stayed end of July 2003  Ok  not 4 or 5 star. Watch out for Tourista so called guides at the airport  they look like Govt employees  but work for Myan Palace not related. We stayed Moon Palace  Nizuc side. Sunrise side mucho muy bein!
Got tired of the buffet's. My 18 yr old son forgot long pants for the few nicer onsite restaurants  so didn't get to go. But I also got some Montezuma's revenge  I think from the poorly kept food buffets'  not the water. They provide free bottled water everywhere! Drinks were very good.  Did not care for the sales presentation for RCI Vacations. Ok until the end  got the pass to a manager and the close!! We walked and the whole room knew we were "walk outs" !! Really sour taste of Palace because of this. Still got the free gifts thou  $110. Palace dollars  and $40. usd cash.not bad for walking  90 min sales pitch if you're interested. Its a sales machine program...they are very good  be careful.  The buses to other Palace resorts didn't run often enough. THey need to improve this. Getting to Hotel Zone or downtown Cancun is a challenge sometimes. Taxi's too expensive! Maid service was so-so. THey kept on forgetting to supply the right # of towels each day  and called several times for extra pillow and blanket  never showed up.  I was told by others we met that the Palace resort at Adventrua-Spa Palace was much better and adults only allowed. Sunrise & Nizuc at Moon are family places.  Did like the shows! Mexican show and Mayan show.   Because I got sick I cannot reccomend this for health reasons. Did not affect everyone but we met several that it did.

We stayed over the Thanksgiving holiday (11/26-30  2003).  It was a very clean hotel.  We had to push for a room on the Sunrise side (everyone said it is the better and newer side of the property).  Well they wanted to put us in the back side of the Sunrise (the very end).  We want to be more forward towards the ocean with a view. After 10 minutes we were able to get them to put us up towards the front.  We had two rooms.  One on the second floor and there was no view but trees and the other on the third floor (Pinati Section)with a great view.  Go for the 3rd floor in the front or as much to the front as possible as the trees will block your view.  The balcony is nice.  Plastic chairs and table.  Hammock also.  We left extra tips for the cleaning ladies.  They turned down our beds one night.  It is confusing when you get there.  You don't realize that you can't eat between 4-6PM.  Plus they don't tell you about the activities very well.  Nothing spectacular at the pool for activities.  Great pool to lie around.  Find a place by the swim up bar.  You can eat  drink  use the washroom and not have to walk a lot if you are resting.  The trip to the Isle of Majures was okay.  The guys on the boat are great when coming back.  The island doesn't really have much to offer.  The beach is pretty  but the shops are old Mexico and I am not sure about the sanitation.  It certainly is a different experience.  Would we go back?  Yes  it was okay and the food was very good.  Japanese restaurant is excellent.  Bring long pants and collared shirt because you can't get in otherwise.  Their club is okay  but nothing to rave about.  The beach front is okay  but a lot of seaweed and it smells in certain areas.  The gift shop has good prices.  Oh  this is a big deal.  They run out of hot water in the late afternoon.  So if you plan on taking a bath in the hot tub or a shower  you better do it earlier or later.  Also  they have some varments running around that look like a possum.  Maybe that's why we saw the cats running around.  The wait staff are very nice.  I only ran into a couple of staff that were acting like it was a bother to ask them a question.

Overall  its a nice place for a family.  Food good  room clean  service okay  activities so so.  Perhaps the other Palaces are better.  Also  you really can't do much about getting the room of choice in advance I think.  You are at their mercy.

Stayed in the Moon palace for the last two weeks of April 04  the place was fantastic  the food was generally excellent except for the mexican restaurant  but the japanese/spanish and all others where top notch although these did sometimes incur upto an hour wait this was not a problem as you could just drink at the bar. Room was excellent double jacuzzi and shower was great fun. staff were helpful and friendly. This hotel is big  although the exercise is quite nice after a 3 course meal! My only real minor problem was the sea at the moon palace  the beach is fine but there is constant seaweed washed up all day but give it too the hotel they do there best to clear this with trucks back and forth numerous times a day  but the pool more than makes up for that its huge and very relaxing!! being from the UK we had no trouble with timeshare people and all in all was a fantastic holiday..... full compliments to the moon palace!!!!!

We stayed at the Moon Palace Sunrise in June 2004 for our honeymoon. The entire week was perfect. I can't say enough good things about the Moon Palace. The service was extrordinary. We had an all inclusive package  but still ended up tipping occasionally because the service was just so good.
The food at Moon Palace was wonderful. The Oriental resturaunt is world class. All of the others were good too. I recommend eating at Bugambilias for breakfast. They have an extensive buffet w/ omlettes made to order. For lunch  my wife and I loved the Palapas down by the pool. Both Fragata and Barracuda serve us excellent BBQ. We never made it over to the resturaunts on the Nizuc side  but everyone raved about the spanish cuisine over there.
We took the Isla Mujeres tour. The tour was ok  but the shopping was kinda boring. If you go  don't pay sticker price for anything. They are always willing to haggle.
Swimming with the dolphins at Isla Mejures is a must. It's a bit pricey  but worth every penny. The optional "jungle tour" is alot of fun too. However  there isn't much jungle. Basically  you just cruise around in your own speedboats until you reach a beautiful reef to snorkel on.
As everyone has mentioned  the beach isn't quite as good as the beaches in the hotel zone  but the seaweed problem is really overrated. The beach is huge  but secluded. We found several places were seaweed wasn't a problem.
Besides  who needs the beach when there is an amazing pool. The pool is really great. It's huge!!!!...and clean. Swim up bars are convienant as well.
Overall  the resort was fantastic. The service alone was enough reason to come back. I would love to go back again sometime.

This hotel sucks!  All hotels that are owned by Palace Resorts suck (including Aventura Spa in playa del carmen).  The management of these hotels lied to us  kicked us out of our pre-confirmed room (lied about a water problem  when they just overbooked the hotel)..and moved us to another Palace Resort hotel.

I would not recommend anyone stay at a Palace Resort  unless you want to be stressed out and frustrated the entire trip!

Stayed at MP for honeymoon last October. Overall it was a great time  but the food was average at best and the seaweed on the beach was annoying and had a horrible smell. The pool is huge and swim up bars and bar at pool are great.  Bar staff at lobby bar was mostly lazy  but plenty of time to drink and party.  I recommend staying only on sunrise side with view of water.  DO NOT do the timeshare pitch unless you don't have a problem wasting the first 4 hours of your vacation....We did visit the Sun and Cancun Palace  beaches much nicer  but same food.  I would probably not stay at MP again but would consider something in the hotel zone when we go back. MP is too far from everything and is too large and commercialized....best bet is to stay elsewhere!

This was our 3rd trip to the Moon for our Honeymoon and have stayed on both sides. The place has REALLY gone downhill in the past few years for being a newer resort. I contracted FOOD POISONING the 3rd day and was Terribly ill for the whole trip.(had to go to my Dr when I returned home because I'm still sick) The 1st room we were given has mold all over the ceiling  we were told we could change rooms to 2 dbl beds  no kings avail due to a convention. They had the same food there every night & the service was horrible in the restaurants and also poolside. The stentch around the whole resort was unbelievable and wanted to make you vomit when you left the room. We spent a half day with NO power through the whole resort and the other half of the day they were on limited power. At this point  you couldn't PAY me to go back to that place! I would Never again recomend this place to anyone!!!!

Everything at this hotel was great except for the beach. It smelled and it is murky. Very disappointed in the beach. That is what this hotel is lacking. If you love the beach  don't stay there. We went to Cancun Palace for the day and enjoyed their beach. The problem is Moon Palace takes you to the other beach but you are not guaranteed a seat on the bus. They only take 40 people a day. If you don't get on the free bus  you have to pay $16 each way. If you do go there  make sure you feed the stray cats. Take home your extra food and give it to the cats. I would not go back to this hotel because of the beach.

Absolutely wonderful!  The service was excellent  the food was pretty good  the pool was beautiful  and even though the ocean wasn't the pretty blue of the hotel zone  it wasn't crowded  so it was worth it.  Went to the Beach Palace one day  took a couple of pics and left.  It was like Coney Island!  Forget that!  No  it didn't smell bad.  The Pacific smells bad  not this one.  I would have no problem taking my kids.  There is some partying  but lots for the kids to do as well.  They frown on topless at the pool  so if you don't want the kids to see that  don't go to the beach.  We didn't see much of it even there.  Would definitely go back.  Everyone is so nice!  Has 4 or 5 shuttle bus runs per day  so it's no problem to grab one.  Had a great time! Nov. 2004.

We first went to the Moon Palace for our Honeymoon in 2003 and absoulutly loved it. We went back the next year with our 4 year old and again had a fantastic time. The hotel is the best ever  the staff are lovley and really go out of their way to make sure you have a lovley time. The rooms are great and are cleaned everyday with the cleaners making cool swans and things out of your towels. The whole place has a great atmosphere  and is great for couples on a romantic holiday as well as families  my soon never stopped talking about it when we got home  the kids club staff made him feel very happy and made sure he had lots of fun. The food was fantastic  something different every day  except the breakfasts were a bit to fattening for me  but there's plenty of choice. We are going back this May with our 6 yr old and 1 year old and really can not wait  weve been to other places and this has got to be the best yet. Would highly recommend it..

My husband and I bought into Palace Resorts in 1997 and stayed at Moon Palace the first year they opened.  Terrific!  Have returned and brought family several times (either 7 or 8)and prefer Nizuc side to Sunrise because it's a little more intimate.  Lost my husband in 1005. I returned to Moon Palace Oct 2005 with childhood friend  was evacuated & well cared for 8 days during Hurricane Wilma.  Can't praise the staff enough for their safe & excellent care during stressful time.  Returned to Moon Palace July 2006 for excellent vacation  food  etc. with entire family. Have visited many Palaces but return to Moon each time.  Food is terrific  staff wonderful. Treated us royally.  Can't wait to return again.  The Sun  Beach and Cancun Palaces will open in December.  Should be sensational.  New "Palace Mattress" is so comfortable; also new pillows are great  no longer hard.  They have done a marvelous job in restoring the Moon Palace and are currently enlarging if you can imagine.  Hope they open pools up under bridges so you can swim/walk total length once again.
