There is no housing near La Salle, the University in on the Highway near the airport. There is a small populated area in what is called Bonfil as well as colonio Doctores but, from an affordability perspecitive you will not live in Doctores. As far as Bonfil is concerned it is not the best area of Cancun nor the worst. You will encounter no other non-mexicans living in the area and transportation is an issue. Cost of getting around will be higher because it is not in downtown it is on the highway.

If you had a car you might be OK but I suggest being in downtown and take into consideration your costs of getting from downtown to the university and back home.
