Hi,
A few years ago, my girlfriend and I moved to Cancun in hopes of establishing a life there.
Finding an apartment was easy and rather inexpensive. Locating a job was a totally different story.
My girlfriend had about 20 years experience in bartending, bar management and assorted food service experience. Over the course of three months, she applied at just about every bar/restaurant in town. Needless to say, she had NO success.
First of all, being a woman was a real roadblock. Mexicans don't beleive in women working in jobs other than housekeeping.
Secondly, foreigners are forbidden to work in many of the bars/restaurants.
Lastly, the pay really sucks. If you're willing to work for a few dollars a day you might get hired somewhere.
All in all, you better bring a job with you. Getting one there is almost impossible.
I wish I could paint a prettier picture for you but I can't. That's just the way it is.
I wish you the best of luck!
Eric
