I sailed on my boat from Key West to Isla Mujeres..one of the things needing to be done was dental work..no urgency would be there for awhile..Took the ferry into Cancun. Wasn't in any hurry..would be at the marina for a month or two..I walked into Myan dental clinic..one afternoon..The clinic was in "Centro"..downtown area..found out they had 3 clinics..With all this "publicity and articles" about Americans and Mexican dentist vacations..."The Ugly American"..only fuels the fire..When I got my estimate for two crowns..I got what I deserved from all this publicity..."An American tourist price"..about 11,000 Pesos or $1100.00 bucks...So much for being an American who can't speak Spanish. 2 porcelin crowns. They have quite a few dentists associated with them with slick looking business cards. "When will Americans learn to keep their mouth shut"(LOL)..In all fairness to Am.Dentists..with a Mexican dentist..You are not paying their insurance tab I guess..so read on.

One afternoon while In the same general area "Centro".. again, out of the Hotel zone..walking down Ave Lopez Portillo.."in a very Mexican area"..an area of outdoor flea market shops..on the same side of the street as McDonalds..down from the square off Tellum..I believe Calle 3 or 4...forget..I happened to look left and saw a little sign Dental clinic..There was a nice looking pretty lady..standing in the little waiting area watching "WWF Wrestling"..it was a Saturday..I asked for the dentist in broken Spanish..I wanted an estimate..It turned out this was..Doctor Sandra..a Dental Surgeon... Who as it turned out... the best dentist I ever experienced..Her hours Monday to Saturday 9AM to 8PM..Sunday 9AM to 1:30PM.."That's dedication..serving the people..

There seems to be a lot of dental clinics serving the people so it would appear dentists are not too busy..and I never had to wait..A little practice..A young lady would come in and clean mop etc..This young girl wanted to be a dentist I was told.

Dra..Sandra gave me an examination on the spot..And the price for two metal crowns..called Casquilles..$300.00 or 3000 pesos..Total. Porcelin more but since they were in the back..I opted for metal. She wrote it out on a simple appointment form. I gave it the thumbs up..I have an intuitive feeling about people..The chemistry was there I knew instinctively a fine dedicated dentist..No frills or fluff....but could see everything was done correctly. I came back Monday saw her Immediately..instead of a Crown or Casquille on the left..Since two teeth were missing..Figured I was a good candidate for a fixed bridge "Puente Fijo" in that area..To make a long story short..One metal crown on upper right..and fixed bridge 3 teeth..two posts..Total $700.00...So I came back and we got started immediately Everything was accomplished in three visits..or done in one week..A wonderful Dentist and a wonderful person..Myan Indian by heritage..I was given a more expensive option if I wanted....She even does root canals..If I wanted the best porcelin that was available..cost would be calculated on the spot. Everything done up front on the spot..I paid one third after first visit..one third..second visit..one third upon completion..very direct and simple..cash..from ATM..no credit cards.."Most of her clients"..I figure are not credit card people..OR UGLY AMERICANS...So I'm sitting here on the computer with the best dental work I've had in my many years.."What else can I say..Some people just have a healing touch associated with them..Dra. Sandra is one of them.. A great dentist, painless experience, a pretty lady, fine sense of humor, married..
