Casa del Cielo, Puerto Morelos

I recently took my entire family to Casa del Cielo for a much needed week-long respite. The experience in the area was terrific and we would recommend this charming sleepy fishing village to anyone. Check out Posado del Amor for a wonderful breakfast and John Grays Restaurant for dinner. We had trouble at the house we rented, Casa del Cielo which marred the experience. Actually a series of troubles. For one, no internet access even though it was (and still is) advertised. Because of my need to have daily access for business reasons, that alone would have led us to turn elsewhere. Most troubling were a fairly startling electric shock my son received from an unprotected duplex outlet under the palapa by the pool, and seeing that most of the week's worth of meat and dairy we purchased they day after our arrival went bad because the refrigerator and freezer did not maintain a healthy temperature. It did not help to get the explanation, after the fact, from the owners, that the hotel next door did something wrong while working on their electric system so that the line voltage dropped from 120 to 48 volts. We also had no dishwasher since the broken one had been removed many weeks earlier. Most troubling was the owner's attitide: this is Mexico, so don't expect things to work as advertised. Our recommendation: definitely check out Puerto Morelos, but look elsewhere for housing.
